How to change your region on PlayStation 4

Unfortunately, there is no way to change your region once you’ve already set up a PlayStation Network account. You’ll be stuck with that region because the PSN ties specific regional stores to your ID. However, you can make a new PSN account on your PlayStation 4 and set it to whatever region you choose, granting you access to otherwise inaccessible games and the ability to download whatever you wish. So, if you’re wondering how to change your PS4 region, we’re here to show you how.

How to set up a new account

  1. Turn on your PS4 console.
  2. Set up a new account on the welcome screen by selecting New User.
  3. Select Create a User on the next screen.

  4. Accept the User Agreement.
  5. Select Next.
  6. Select New to PlayStation Network? Create an Account.
  7. Fill out the information as prompted using an email address not already associated with a PlayStation Network account.
  8. Once prompted, select your new region of choice.

Alternatively, you can go directly to the other region’s store page before signing up for an account. Make sure you’re logged out of your other account first because if the areas vary, you’ll receive an error and a prompt to go back to your regional store page.

If you select a non-English region, you might need the help of trusty Google Translate to do some of the heavy lifting for you. When asked to fill out your zip code, any zip code from the region you chose will work.

Buying content from another region

The PlayStation Store only allows credit cards and PayPal accounts registered to your region, so you’ll instead need to use PlayStation Store gift cards. Another problem: The gift card currency needs to match the currency of your area, i.e., you can’t use a $25 gift card on the Japanese or European digital storefronts.

However, you can purchase gift cards in other currencies. For example, you can buy a 5000 yen Japanese PlayStation Store gift card for around $50.
